Friday Favorites: Stay Cozy
If you live in Chicago, the midwest, or basically anywhere above the Mason Dixon, you know it’s straight up coldballs frigid outside. Maybe you’re even one of the 400,000 people in Chicago who took a screenshot of the weather on your phone.*
Let’s face it, if I was silly enough to have been lured into enduring winter temps plunging deep below the zero degree mark (damn summer street festivals, beach volleyball and outdoor imbibing opportunities), you’d better believe I have a solid survival strategy.
*I am one of those people, I admit it. It was 0*!!
Hitting the yoga mat – My recent obsession with health-related challenges is not news to the internets. However, what I did not anticipate as I entered into this whole zen mess was the added flexibility and limberness that comes with loosening muscles & joints otherwise lying dormant as they stiffen in the cold.
Aladdin desktop mug from Target – Cheap, cozy, and a more sustainable solution than my daily coffee purchases. My morning office treat as I thaw out from a frozen morning commute.
Pine scented candle – I’ve been lighting one of these all week while I yoga myself to chillaxation. Gifted to me by my sweet friend Erin, it smells crisp and clean as a walk in a snowy forest … minus the frostbite.
Raw cacao powder – A recent discovery for me, I can’t gush enough over this superfood. It’s chocolate. And it’s amazing for you; it contains more flavonoids (read: antioxidants!) than any other food. I’ve been throwing it into smoothies every morning for a nutritional kick in the pants to keep my immune system pumping.
Bear Paw Boots – Yeah, that’s right, this is a knock off Ugg brand. And I’ve been wearing them to work. Every. Day. Jealous?
Wild Atlantic Salmon – I’ve always noticed visibly clearer and healthier skin after eating my favorite fish. This week, incorporating salmon into my diet has done a number on my skin, keeping it bright despite susceptibility to dryness. Not to mention there’s something awfully primal about loading up on healthy fats in order to steel ourselves against the chill.
